Today’s front pages of the major newspapers in Beijing, Xinjingbao (新京报) and Jinghua Shibao (京华 时报), have highlighted the same themes and adopted an almost identical layout:
The two put under their covers the same news, the withdrawal of 78 companies from the real estate market.
The photo they use is that of Xiao Liao, a hepatitis B carrier who, after several months of waiting and going to court, has finally obtained a health certificate to work in the food business.
The coincidences don’t end there. The third most prominent news is also the same in the two newspapers (one places it at the top right and the other at the bottom left): an extra item of up to 300,000 yuan (about 30,000 euros) to finance the patients’ medicines.
On many occasions, the local press, in China and anywhere in the world, has no choice but to get the same news … but did the covers really have to be so similar?
